Is Yahoo Directory Submission worth the Money?

by The System on May 27th, 2009

We are often asked, even by experienced pros in the SEO and Internet Marketing industry, whether we think that Yahoo is worth bothering with or more specifically –

“Do you know if there is any benefit to sumbitting websites to yahoo
directory @$299 per year?”

So whats the answer? The bottom line is whether you think that the Yahoo listings are going to return you more value than the GBP200 or $300 that you have to spend initially?

Heres our take:

You will never rank on the first page of Google until you establish authority

The easiest way to achieve this is to obtain links from authority sites.

The Alexa rank for Yahoo (a better rank of authority as it measures usage) is No.2 in the world!

Point proved?

Furthermore about a month before this post was written Google and Yahoo search got into bed with each other again. It’s a bit of a soap (geedit?) opera (geddit?)but maybe Yahoo offers google some real latent semantic and/or human editing options!!

My take on it doesn't measure results from or ROI from a particular listing, but prefers to take a more wholistic view of an ongoing link building campaign. I've got sites at the top of Google for some very competitive financial services keywords. I've paid the $299 in some cases for over 7 years for each of these sites.

If you look in the Yahoo Directory for a keyword such as Car Insurance and then check Google's SERP's you will find that all those in the top fifty have paid!

My point is – if you want to convince Google that you are THE Authority…. then you have to do ALL the things that the 'REAL' authority sites are already doing….

Does AIG Moneysupermarket or some other giant quibble over the price of it's listing?
If you want to run with the big boys there is always going to be an economic baseline of minimum investment.
You've got to be in it to win it!

Fortunately Web 2.0 allows you to create multiple free links from high authority sites.
Even Yahoo does….Try Yahoo Answers for great link ROI!
Try Yahoo Pipes For bulk link dissemination!!!
