Today I’m going to tell you a few secrets about Linkedin.com that the majority of the SEO world have not grasped as yet – and that includes the majority of the 7000 UK members that are returned when you type ‘Search Engine Optimistaion’ into LinkedIn or the 146000 when you type ‘SEO’ in!
How do I know This?
Because they obviously are not doing it when you look at the results!
Today I’m going to show you how to SEO your personal profile for maximum LinkedIn exposure and Google juice. Tommorrow we will deal with your Company and Products exposure.

If you sign it to your Linkedin Account you will see additional SEO.
Firstly look at the use of the keywords I’m targetting! Look at the way they are naturally included into each of the sections, text and personal areas of the profile.
Next make sure you use every available link to your blogs, websites and RSS feeds
Join as many Groups that are on theme for your keywords as you can! These are great because they give you a chance to shout your product message or services to the massive targetted audience, and every one you join increases your ‘range’ of connections or ‘connectivity reach’, which gives you more authority on LinkedIn for your specialist subjects (keywords!).
Create your own Groups – these give you an extra capability to increase you connectivity range and at the same time chuck lots of lovely links about on the discussion and forum posts you create or contribute too and YOU have editorial control!
Look at how I use comma separated keywords for the Specialities and Personal Interests sections!
This is because just like on Facebook these become search keyword ‘Metatags’ for the internal LinkedIn search scripts!
So do a search for any of my keywords and (hopefully ) I show at the top.
Use a posting service and bloglink etc to connect all your Blog and microblogging RSS posts on your profile.
Now just doing all this isn’t going to get you to the top of the Linkedin people seach results for service or job terms like ‘ Insurance Marketing’ or product terms like ‘car insurance’ (check them out!) unless you do the most important thing of All!
Get Connected! Link!
Linkedin is the ultimate on-line Business Network and business social media marketing platform. It is the Facebook for business and is a trusted friend of Google. The more authoratitive people you have as ‘connections’ within your industry the higher you will rank in the LinkedIn search Results!
It’s not about Numbers! It’s about making yourself a power hub!
It’s about Who you Know – Connectivity, Power and Authority!
It’s about where you stand within your specific industry, Who you are connected to and how ‘powerful’ and connected they are. Because I know all the high fliers in my particular industry it’s really easy to get top rankings because my ex bosses, friends, business partners etc are only too keen to get connected.
It’s about who you know, and what you do! Which is the perfect ‘social validation’ for Google from the ‘real’ business crowd! This is the heart of getting higher rankings!
So you see LinkedIn search, in it’s very simplistic search way, is actually meritocracy in action!
Do all this right and you will appear at the top of LinkedIn People for your search terms and believe me, a plethora of work will follow , let alone higher rankings for your target sites!
