Dirt Control – When Social Media Turns on You!
I’ve read a lot from Harvard Business School And LSE graduates about media disaster contingency planning and how to manage a PR disaster when social media turns against you.
In nine out of ten cases they mean Facebook as social media. Still I suppose that’s bad enough with half a billion people on the server!
A lot of things annoy me about the ‘remedies’ that are offered by these so called experts, not least the exhorbitant fees they charge for the consultancy babel. But what annoys me the most is that they are all wrong.
An Idea is just as much a piece of content as a video or article. Once it’s out there it is never going away, it’s just a question of how much exposure it is given as to whether it is effectual or not.
I got really annoyed today when I read an article on the usually good quality social media rag Mashable (Am I mistaken to think there is a Scotland Connection there?) about ‘What to do when Social Media turns Against Your Product or Company‘
The main point of my annoyance is that all the solutions involved couldn’t even begin to stop a concerted social media attack and no Company no matter how big could avoid irreparable damage is the cork was ever unleashed from the genies bottle.
What’s in the genie’s bottle?
It’s far too dangerous to talk about here on The System but let’s just say for now that there is a lot of software readily available out there that if used for nefarious purposes could spread an unstoppable landslide of dirt on the Social Media web about anyone or anything in the blink of an eye!
