Facebook, Yahoo Test Six Degrees Theory of Connectivity
Social network scientist and author of ‘Six Degrees’ Duncan J Watts @duncanjwatts has spoken about his latest experiment to test the theory of six degrees of connectivity using data from Facebook and Yahoo.
The approach will analyse connectivity paths between global users using multiple variables for the analysis. Watts believes that the sample will satisfy the law of large numbers and fake accounts will not skew the results!
Hey! how many people are really real on Facebook?
Half of those 750 milllion users are kids under 18 who have had to fake an account to be accepted!
And how many of those 3000 friends on facebook do I really know?
And what about the Internet Marketers!
However, The System believes that none of that matters, after all connected is connected and welcomes research into shortest path theory which underpins what we teach here for content distribution. And I’ve got to agree with Watts that the wisdom of the crowds will prevail!
It will be interesting to see who and where are the ‘social hubs’ , the small world networks and the level if disconnectivity. Guaranteed any major Social hub is an Internet marketer!
It’s a shame linkedin has not joined in, because the datasets extracted from there would show real connectivity!
